Name: Melissa DeMordaunt

Hometown: Citrus Heights, CA

Current Residence (City, State): Draper, UT

Education: BS from BYU

Professional Background (brief, please):Worked for a financial restructuring firm in NYC for 4 years before having my first son.

What you wanted to be when you grew up: a gymnastics coach

What you are: Stay at home mom/Small Business Owner

Brief Summary of your Start Up: Our company started from just a small idea born from a mother’s battle to make sure her baby was warm enough (but not sweating under all the layers) during their outdoor adventures through the cold NYC winter. A few years (and a couple of new babies) later, we have turned that small idea into a company with an innovative product that solves this very problem by providing warmth without the bulk. What all parents need for their babies-on-board is a base layer. The hi-tech fabric (with wicking capabilities) used to make the WARMSIE makes them so very practical for cold winters everywhere and the styling makes them so cute it would be a shame to consider them just “underwear”.  Now babies can be warm, dry and comfortable sans the bulk and hassle.

Favorite motivational quote: Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us…There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do…And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. – by Nelson Mandela

Family? Supportive husband and a very busy son

If so, how do you balance family and business? We’re still on the two naps a day routine, so right now, that is when I get business done.  And when we go to stores, I have my little model come along with me – he is really what sells the Warmsie!

If you could design a tiara, what precious stones would you use?
Aquamarine – my sons birthstone.  Plus some (or lots) of diamonds.

What business subjects would you feel comfortable mentoring in? Creative solutions – I know that is not a fundamental subject, but it’s what I am good at – finding a solution.  There is ALWAYS a solution.

Would you be interested in going to lunch with other women entrepreneurs for a “networking tea party”? Absolutely.
